What Makes My Photography Distinct?

It's happening!! I am cultivating and networking myself as a photographer for hire.

The words rolling off my tongue about what it is that I do still feels a bit tangled.

That's OK with me. Truth be, I like the awkwardness of it right now.

As I begin to converse with potential clients I have been asking them what is at the core of their project. What do they need?  This can be challenging sometimes if a client isn't quite sure.

My hostess for my artist residencies commented that one thing she learned about having me take food images for her, was that she could have been better at offering direction. I have used that comment when working with a client, simply by saying to them that their guidance is important to the process.

I photograph everyday as if they were celebrations.  Often to me and my eye they are!

I am told that my visual narrative leaves the viewer with a sense of intimacy.

I feel this up close and personal perspective is a strong distinction to the work that I do.

Below are a few examples:

Making Dinner.

a walk about town.

City Traffic

My refrigerator

A detail in a pub and stray dog on a fishing trip

around the house

random:  a game of cards, shopping, waiting in line, or snow on the neighbors garage roof.

I strive to be sure that the working relationship between myself and a project is a solid fit. When something isn't a good fit I decline that working scenario. As someone new to my profession saying no has me feel confident about what I am best at, verses taking on a photography project that doesn't suit my creative style and skill set.

A few years ago I would not have been able to say that.

Sure am loving this learning curve!

Do you need a photographer?

What are you trying to convey with images for your business or project?

Do you have a specific budget and time frame?

How would a library of images be useful for your work?

These are just a few things to consider when beginning a conversation with me.

I can't wait to work with you!
