Creative Reclamation At Allied Arts

April 06, 2023  •  Leave a Comment

Allied Arts of Whatcom County hosts an annual group exhibit that highlights artists that recycle/upcycle within their creative process.

RARE provides a platform for eco-friendly artists to showcase their art created from recycle materials. RARE also promotes art organizations and facilities that incorporate sustainability in their facilities and programs. One of our main objectives for this event is to educate the community on the role that the arts can play in the sustainability movement.

This year’s RARE event will provide an entertaining, socially distanced, environment that showcases pieces from numerous, diverse artists using a variety of recycled materials for a month long exhibit at the Allied Arts Gallery. We invite Exhibiting artists with a passion for art created from recycled materials to become a part of RARE. Attendees are inspired to take home innovative ideas that recognize the value of using resources creatively.

RARE is made possible by many generous business partners.

Sixteen of my 8x8 Bird Stitched Collages are participating!

11th Annual Invitational FL#CK At Smith And Vallee Gallery

February 03, 2023  •  Leave a Comment

Announcing this years theme for the 11th annual Bird Invitational at Smith and Vallee Gallery in Edison.

"FL#CK"

It’s that time of year where all the birds and birders flock to Skagit Valley and into Smith & Vallee Gallery!

My piece this year is a one of a kind stitched collage. Titled: Trussed.

The exhibit is from Feb 2-26th.

For locals the chicken parade ( wink ) is on at noon on the 26th.

This group exhibition is a gathering of some of the finest beloved local artists.

I made two in this style and could not decide which to submit. I put it to a vote and the above won!

The other sold.

I am absolutely delighted to share that two of my stitched collage art pieces have been published in a student run UC Davis Campus Literary Magazine!

I heard of the open call through a newsletter of an art center that I show annually with.

The Open Ceilings Winter 2023 Publication is titled Open Hours. It is available for purchase.

This will be Open Ceilings 7th Issue.

The publication has a rigorous curating process.

I submitted a variety of collages and photography.

I am delighted to be included for the second year now in the 3rd annual Powerful Little Things Group Virtual exhibit with Roaring Artist Gallery.

This year I submitted these lovelies ....

Katie - the galleries founder and curator said, "These are fantastic"

She made my day!!

Third Annual Powerful Little Things

Often when we think of art’s influence on our society, we think of large sculptures, giant murals, and installations.  But anyone with a beloved piece of art on their wall knows that art affects us just as much, if not more, on a personal level.

There is something beautiful about the accessibility of small art pieces that can fit into collectors’ homes and influence their daily lives- and something intimate and exciting about being able to take in the full message of the artist at once!

That’s the power in small art pieces, and that’s what this market and exhibition of artwork sized 24” x 24” and smaller is all about!

We hope you’ll explore our market exhibition in our 3-D Virtual Gallery above and think about who on your holiday list needs a one-of-a-kind gift.  And just as importantly, we hope you’ll consider collecting a powerful little piece for your own wall!

6x6 at Dakota Art Gallery

November 08, 2022  •  Leave a Comment

I last participated in Dakota Arts Gallery's 6x6 fundraiser in 2019. it's great to have it back again!!

The show opens 11/11 and runs through 12/10.

Each piece is priced at $25 and proceeds go to a local charity

I submitted this mushroom stitched collage. The piece was smaller than the required 6x6 tile, so I wrapped another layer to make up the difference. I think doing so added a nice dimensional quality to it. I am also feeling proud of how my work has evolved. This is a good example of that.

This fundraiser is always a great success!

The event was a success!! My piece sold! This was also the first time I was in a room this full of people since Feb 2020!
